Plugins

The 7-Zip File Manager can use internal and external plugins.

Currently 7-Zip uses the following plugins:

7-Zip: Plugin for manipulating archives.

Notes from this site

Not part of the 7-Zip manual. Written by this site; examples checked with 7-Zip 26.04.

Which plugin do I need?

Only one plugin is listed: the 7-Zip plugin. It is built in, so there is nothing to install. It makes an archive open like a folder in the File Manager and adds the right-click commands Open, Extract files..., Test archive and Add to archive..., both in the File Manager and in Windows Explorer.

Create an archive: Add to Archive dialog
Unpack an archive: Extract dialog
Make double-click open archives: in the File Manager choose Tools, Options, System and set the file types in the "Associate 7-Zip with" list (File Manager Options)

Linux and macOS

The File Manager (7zFM.exe) and the right-click menu are a Windows GUI. The official Linux/macOS program 7zz is console-only, so there is no File Manager to look for. Each menu command has a command-line equivalent; on Windows use 7z instead of 7zz.

7zz x archive.7z -o/tmp/out (Extract files...)
7zz t archive.7z (Test archive)
7zz l archive.7z (list the contents)
7zz a archive.7z files (Add to archive...)

There is no space after -o; quote the whole switch when the path has spaces: "-oMy Files". x keeps the folder structure; e puts every file into one folder (see x and e). The full menu-to-command table is on the 7-Zip plugin page; all commands: command list.
